Whiplash
You’re waiting at a stoplight when you hear screeching tires followed by the harsh sound of metal hitting metal. Suddenly, your car is being rear ended and pushed forward! In a split second, your body is pushed against your seat. Your head, isolated by your neck, delays its reaction.
Immediately, your body changes directions, surging forward and straining the limits of your seatbelt. (You are wearing your seatbelt aren’t you?) Finally, your head snaps backwards, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.
Even a minor fender bender can produce a whiplash injury. It may take a day or two, or sometimes months for symptoms to appear. But when if does, contact our practice for an examination! Pain pills won’t heal inflamed tendons and ligaments. Muscle relaxants won’t heal torn muscles. A cervical collar will not restore a graceful and natural forward spinal curve. While all these prescribed treatments may be warranted by your personal care physician (PCP), the co-treatment of chiropractic and physical medicine will help you get back to your pre-accidental status and reach optimal health.
Specific chiropractic spinal adjustments – because they can help restore proper motion and position of individual spinal bones – can better assure proper healing. The longer you delay therapy, the more unseen damage can go unchecked and the longer it may take to recover. Drugs may temporarily reduce the pain, but they simply mask the need for the restoration of proper spinal function.
